The mistletoe preparate Iscucin was developed from 1957 onwards by the anthroposophical physician Karl Köller (1896-1975). In 1978 the manufacture of the preparation was transferred to the company WALA. Mistletoes from eight different host trees are used, among them poplar, willow and linden. The mistletoe plants together with the haustoria are harvested in summer and winter and then carefully dried. The drugs are extracted, and the extracts from the summer and winter plants are combined in a mixing apparatus constructed by Köller. Subsequently, dilutions are made in vicesimal steps (1:20) and the potencies are labelled with alphabetically consecutive letters, from H (1st dilution step = 5%) to A (10th dilution step). The Iscucins manufactured from deciduous trees are very high in lectins in some cases. In a cytotoxicity test the Iscucin-preparates of strength H show a clear growth suppressing effect on nine tumor cell lines. The inhibition effect is up to 97 %, depending on the mistletoe and the cell line. Especially the lectin-rich Iscucins (Tiliae, Crataegi) seem to be an interesting possibility for intra- and peritumoral use.de_CH
