Abstract:	Patient Education ist der Informations- und Motivationsprozess in der Physiotherapie. Die Physiotherapeutin* vermittelt der Patientin Wissen und Fähigkeiten und initiiert und unterstützt wenn nötig einen Verhaltensveränderungsprozess. Dieses Lernen und Lehren zwischen Patientin und Physiotherapeutin wird geplant, systematisch durchgeführt und ausgewertet. Eine physiotherapeutische Sitzung besteht immer aus den Elementen Behandlung und Education. Patient Education wird aber oft nicht systematisch durchgeführt, sondern abhängig von Situation und Patientin. Am IPM des Universitätsspitals Zürich wurden ein Konzept und ein Befundtool entwickelt, um Patient Education strukturiert und bewusst in jede Therapiesitzung einzubeziehen. Das entwickelte Konzept ermöglicht den bewussten und systematischen Einsatz von Patient Education in der Therapie. Eine Rahmenbedingung für die strukturierte Durchführung von Patient Education ist das Einbauen dieses Tools in die Befundaufnahme. Zur Erleichterung für die Praxis empfehlen wir auch die Bereitstellung von Demonstrations- und Dokumentationsmaterial. Mit der konsequenten Anwendung von Patient Education verbessert sich die Effizienz und damit die Qualität in der Physiotherapie. Dieses Thema sollte deshalb in der Grundausbildung von Physiotherapeutinnen enthalten sein und für Diplomierte als Weiterbildungsangebot bestehen.
