Inorganic and organic surfaces can be modified with ultrathin poly(siloxane)s which initially contain silicon-hydrogen bonds. In presence of an activator the polymers strongly adhere to various surfaces, e.g., to metals, ceramics and wood. The layer thicknesses are in the range of monolayers, i.e., in the nanometer range. Such layers can be used, e.g., for hydrophobization, adhesion promotion and corrosion protection.de_CH
