Keynote presentation at the IEES Symposium 2020.de_CH
This keynote session opened the IEES online symposium of Sep. 2020, focussing on "Closed Cycles and the Circular Society - The Power of Ecological Engineering". The presentation reflects the crucial role of natural resources in our current society and proposes a fundamental change in its useage, promoted by a new way of thinking in teh planning prfessions. All processes in our human society should be transformed from linear to circular practice. Several examples - mainly from the water sector - underline that circular approaches already exist and have reached a high Tecnology Readiness Level (TRL). In order to become mainstream, however, the practice of Ecological Engineering needs to be promoted in a much larger scale than it is today. The presentation ends with the redefined definition of Ecological Engineering (promoted by IEES) and sketches a design approach for its implementation.de_CH
