This paper presents an autarkic system for access control, powered by energy harvesting. The system is designed for installation in conventional doors. The installation dimensions correspond to a standard door lock. The autarkic system presented here can replace conventional battery-powered electronic locks. The goal is to read an NFC tag in order to perform a subsequent authentication. The power for this task is harvested from the mechanical energy of the movement of the door handle. If the authentication is successful, the door is unlocked with a motor. A functioning prototype was created, to prove feasibility.de_CH
