dc.description.abstractIn this paper we examine some breaking issues and potential solutions surrounding the coexistence of real time control and non-real-time traffic in Ethernet based TSN networks. Not only do communication controllers have to satisfy protocol requirements but also need to be designed to satisfy varying application requirements. These applications may include requirements such as high precision time synchronisation and/or media redundant networks. With security also being a major issue we show, using lessons learned from the automation industry, where architecture can be successfully be modularised to provide adaptability and security by design. We show how the node – and hence network-stability can be enhanced by multi-controller approaches used to isolate real-time secure communication from legacy IP based traffic and how third party software, such as stacks, can be integrated into the node with less serious consequences should the stacks suffer from the effects of hard-to-find bugs.de_CH
