| Zusammenfassung: | The mission-oriented approach to innovation is receiving increasing attention in policy research. However, little is known about how such missions can be implemented to foster sustainable development. This conference paper contributes to this research gap by proposing a governance framework for mission-oriented innovation systems. Furthermore, appropriate policy tools are linked with the proposed activities of the governance-process. Drawing on meta-governance and design studies, this iterative governance-process consists of diagnosis, alignment, enablement, and innovation activities. These activities are interconnected via feedback loops to enable learning effects and to scale the systemic innovations over time until the mission-oriented system transformation takes place. This new framework helps to systematize the empirical study of mission implementation and is thus seen as a starting point for further case-based and comparative research on mission-oriented innovation. |
