Zusammenfassung: | Introduction: Health care systems in Europe and beyond face major challenges: an ageing population, an increasing prevalence of chronic illness and multimorbidity, and an increasing shortage of health professionals, including OTs. The challenge is particularly great in outpatient care for the elderly where OTs play an important role in providing outpatient rehabilitation and enabling clients to stay independent as long as possible. Innovative models of interprofessional collaboration in community-based care of elderly people may offer new approaches towards these challenges. Objective: This study aimed to explore the perspectives of OTs as well as other stakeholders on current challenges and possible solutions in the community-based care of elderly people. Furthermore, it explored the feasibility and acceptability of innovative models of interprofessional collaboration in community care. Approach: Four focus groups with OTs, PTs, senior citizens, and other stakeholders from community care were held. The data was analyzed using qualitative methods. Results: Results showed a shortage of OT services as well as a lack of care coordination and mutual treatment goals in community care. OT’s were open towards new and innovative models of care provision and closer interprofessional collaboration. They were also in favor of closer collaboration with professionals from the social system. They felt that OTs should take an active part in the change process and that their professional independence must be maintained. Conclusion: OTs want to play an active role in reforms in community care however, additional funding, support, and resources are needed for doing so. |
