Zusammenfassung: Objective: Coaching is en vogue in paediatric rehabilitation and early intervention, but often applied unspecific. Goal-oriented coaching (solution-focused, non-directive and performance driven) applied within family-centred care in early intervention is associated with improved developmental outcomes in high-risk infants and better family empowerment. This form of coaching is demanding for health professionals, as it requires a certain attitude, knowledge on coaching theory and practice experience with coaching skills. For clinicians, which are able to master these challenges, coaching is a promising method to enhance participation of families with an infant with special needs. Learning objectives of the course: 1. To recognise the potential of coaching as a method in early intervention. 2. To understand the requirements for the application of effective coaching. 3. To exercise coaching skills like active listening, asking reflective questions, providing feedback. Target audience: Clinicians involved in early intervention of infants with special needs and their families. Summary: The aim of coaching in early intervention is to empower the individual family in the process of decision making, regarding functional activity and participation in daily life. The sophisticated application of this method should be promoted. Outline of the course: Lecture about coaching, group work to practice coaching skills, discussion.
