Zusammenfassung: A very important aspect of low-power system design is the proper choice of components. In the case of Wireless Embedded Systems that use Bluetooth Smart, one should make sure that the consumption of the load fits the energy provided. This is especially needed when battery life is an important feature of a product or when energy harvesting is used to power the device. There are several Bluetooth smart solutions on the market, all claiming to be low-power. Studying the datasheets is time consuming and only delivers partial information, sometimes difficult to interpret and to use for comparison or design. We have analysed the energy requirements of some Bluetooth Smart devices that are on the market, particularly paying attention to recent SoCs (year 2018). We present results of the measurements of important parameters that need to be considered when designing for low-power. Those results are deduced from dynamic power profiles of basic use cases needed to build more sophisticated applications. We explain the methodology behind our measurements and how the results can be used to compare devices and to predict energy requirements. The work was carried out in 2018. It is the third time we have done the comparison, at interval of about 2 years.
