Zusammenfassung: At present, the penetration rate of deaf and hearing impaired students in tertiary education continues to be low in the French and Italian regions of Switzerland. This paper summarises some of the findings of a nation-wide survey, conducted to provide a better understanding of why that is the case. Data gathered seems to point at communication barriers during primary and secondary education as the main reasons for this lack of integration.
