Zusammenfassung: Introduction/Rationale: With globalisation, work with international partners is required in research and education to use resources effectively. New internet technologies allow collaboration over long distance. Nevertheless these opportunities have limitations. To what extend it is useful to encourage a long distance project? In an intercontinental project a Swiss and an American university worked together on a research in occupational therapy education. Objectives: What are the experiences from researchers and students working on an intercontinental research project? Method: In the course of collaboration between the Tufts University Occupational Therapy Department Medford MA USA and the ZHAW in Zurich, a research team of both universities started gathering data from Swiss students for a validation research of the assessment the Functional Group Model (Schwartzberg and Barnes, 2014). Thirty-six Swiss students joined the project. Project participation required minimal in vivo knowledge. After finishing the project, students discussed their experiences in a focus group interview which was later analysed by content analysis to identify recurrent themes. Results: The focus groups are currently under way. Quantitative and qualitative data is now being collected via Qualtrics. Conclusion: Working together between different countries over a long distance has been an interesting experience for all members. Necessary resources for a successful collaboration have been identified. Collaboration over long distance created new opportunity to gain and share knowledge, but has its limitation since always a physical, cultural and language barrier has to be overcome.
