Abstract: To allow a faster deployment of industrial robots and therefore to enable an economic deployment in small batch size applications, more intelligent robot movements are required. Small batch size production is typical for small and medium-sized enterprises which build a large market for future robot installations. Despite ongoing efforts enabling industrial robots to perform intelligent sensor guided motions, industrial applications are rare nowadays. The challenging integration of additional sensors into a robot system demands for robotic experts and is most often designed for a particular application which is only reasonable for large batch sizes. In this paper we present a generalized concept of sensor integration into the robot motion control. The concept consists of a standard sensor interface and a standard activity decomposition which provide an easier integration of intelligent sensors into the robotic system. This enables the end user of such a robot system to install sophisticated robot applications without direct support of experts.
