|Abstract:||This paper introduces a significant technical extension of Proton-Transfer-Reaction Mass-Spectrometry (PTR-MS). Coupling gas-chromatographic (GC) neutral separation to simultaneous detection by PTR-MS and Electron-Impact-MS, an ambiguous chemical interpretation of complex PTR-MS spectra becomes feasible. In order to exploit the full potential of the coupling, the PTR-MS was upgraded with the recently introduced Fast Drift Tube (FDT). Here a detailed discussion of selected techni cal aspects. necessary to operate the novel set-up under controlled and stable conditions, will be given. We will focus in particular on critical modifications of the PTR-MS, the GC EI-MS and the automatic thermal desorber (ATD).|
