Abstract: In, out, shake it all about: The distribution of fluorescence-labeled amino groups on mesoporous silica was imaged by confocal laser scanning microscopy. The mobility of the aminosilane precursor determines the degree of external vs. pore-surface functionalization. This observation was used to develop a simple and general method for the modification of external mesoporous silica surfaces.
