In recent years, translation scholars have become increasingly interested in the role of emotion in the translation process and in how it impacts on translation performance. This chapter seeks to provide an overview of how emotions have been addressed and studied by translation scholars to date. It outlines the componential view of emotions and integrates translation process research and emotion research by modelling the translation process as an emotion episode. In addition, the chapter discusses existing empirical evidence for influences of emotion on the translator's cognitive processes as well as presenting evidence for the multifaceted role of trait emotional intelligence in translation performance.de_CH
