Abstract: The article examines trends in youth crime in Germany, Switzerland and Austria on the basis of police crime statistics. For all three countries similar trends are found. After a decline in the period 2009–2014/2015, crime is stabilized or rising again—this applies equally to the offences of violence, vandalism and shoplifting. Repeated surveys from Germany confirm these trends. A comparison of the survey years 2015 and 2017 shows a significant increase especially for violent behavior. Possible explanatory factors for this increase are examined. Results show that these factors are primarily to be found in the area of personal attitudes.
