|dc.description.abstract||This paper examines the necessary competencies of public sector leaders facing opportunities and challenges from digital transformation. In order to examine our research question, we conducted six expert interviews with public sector leaders. Our findings show that transformational leadership competence (e.g., leading and motivating people through change, define a vision, deal with fears and resistance) has gained importance. Moreover, networking and cooperating competence have become important in the digital age. It is crucial to build partnerships with different stakeholders. In addition, communication skills remain as one of the most important competencies from the analogue age. Finally, leaders need to overcome certain tensions, by showing learning readiness and interpersonal openness at the one hand and resilience and tolerant to failures on the other. Moreover, by concentrating both on the operations of existing business while strategically pushing digital innovation (a phenomenon called am-bidexterity). With our research, we propose to add certain new competencies to existing models while putting more emphasis on classical leadership competencies. We put this in context of public sector specific aspects of leadership and give suggestion for further research.||de_CH|
