Abstract: Excess adsorption isotherms under supercritical conditions of carbon dioxide on silica gel and 13X zeolites as well as of nitrous oxide on silica gel have been measured using a magnetic suspension balance. At temperatures close to the bulk critical temperature evidence of critical phenomena occurring in the pores of the adsorbent, e.g. "critical adsorption" and "critical depletion", is provided. These phenomena are analyzed using lattice density functional theory, which is then used to describe and explain the experimental observations.
