Abstract: Related to our experiences during the European Master of Science in Occupational Therapy Modules "Human Occupation" and "Culture in Europe" and "Implementing OT Research in Europe". The curriculum of the master programme tends to increase the students' awareness on how different social systems and cultural norms and values shape human occupation and people's daily routines. Emphasis is on how culture and environment influence occupational performance. An example of a master thesis based on a life history approach using narrative methods will be presented. The study aimed at broadening OTs understanding of employment transitions in relation to the meaning of daily occupations of a migrant. The results of this study suggest using this approach in practice as it might give insight on the impact of culture on occupational performance over a life span. The concept of culture influencing human occupation as well as narrative interviewing with OT clients are shortly introduced. In the following group works attendants discuss whether this approach might be a valid focus in practice: - Which aspects of culture might be covered through narrative interviewing? - Is it meaningful for OTs to use this approach with clients from different cultures and why? - Are there any alternatives to embrace cultural aspects? - How might the insights be incorporated in the curricula of OT?
