Abstract: The research on complexity in collaborative networks has been underestimated so far, which is why the EU founded the project (Collaborations as Complex Systems) in the sixth framework program. In this present paper, we focus on developing a multi-matrix approach resulting in a reference framework to handle complexity in collaborative networks. The resulting model, which is based on the viable system model, is tested within two participating collaborations.
