Discusses the fields of neurotechnologies and brain-machine interfaces (BMI) and reports standards development in these areas. Scientific and technological advances on the means to measure and decode brain activity are triggering increasing interest from the general public, industry, and innovators. This interest gives way to significant efforts to develop and evaluate systems in applications toward both the general public and those with cognitive or motor disabilities. Reports on the work of the Industry Connections Group on Neurotechnologies for Brain-Machine Interface (https:// standards.ieee.org/industry-connections/neurotechnologies-for-brainmachine-interfacing.html), supported by the IEEE Standards Association, the IEEE Brain Initiative, and the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society. This iniative aims at identifying current needs and challenges for standardization of neurotechnologies. As part of its work, a panel on standards for neurotechnology was held at the IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC) 2018 Workshop on BMI Systems.de_CH
