Abstract: The turbocharger has a housing (8) provided with a magnetic bearing for supporting a compressor shaft (7), the turbine of the turbocharger having a variable turbine geometry (9) controlled in dependence on the measured axial force acting on the compressor shaft, via a regulating and control device (11). A sensor detecting the compressor shaft position can be coupled to the regulating and control device, for feedback regulation of the shaft position, by controlling the current supplied to the electromagnets of the magnetic bearing.
